Apologies for the late post.
For Mrs Jem I thought that it would be nice to use a modern boyfriend maxi dress, as it's not dissimilar to the biblical style of dress. I wanted to use the same colour scheme of greys with more vibrant tones for both of them. I'm not sure about the colours I've used at the moment but I think a dull dress with vibrant scarf on Mrs Jem and a vibrant dress and dull waistcoat for Mr Jem could work.
I'm really not sure about the colours I've used and it might be nice to tie in an overall colour scheme with the brothers. I think it could also be nice to get some pattern in there, I like what Fen has used in her designs.

Lovely drawings Steph.
ReplyDeleteI think these already work really well - in their style and cut, they echo the ancient and connect to the modern; the reversal of 'dull' to vibrant in the colours of the waistcoat and dress in each character connects them whilst differentiating them. You've obviously sought to connect to the heart of the story by using the watercolour to suggest the wateriness of their fates - the splashes and bleeds I think are marvellous. I also think the slightly ragged or asymmetrical cut works well.
You mention pattern as a possibility, but as we have a couple more pairs like this to come, I'll hold back from thinking about pattern for the moment..
